Getting started

How do I create a list?
  1. On the home screen, tap Start a List, then New List.
  2. Give it a name, choose an icon and a color, then tap Create.
  3. The list opens empty: tap Adjust List, then add your items with the + button, and categories if you like.
What’s the difference between Use and Adjust?

Use is for checking things off: tap a row to check or uncheck it.

Adjust is for changing the list: add, rename, move (handle on the right) or delete items, and manage categories. These changes are kept for next time. Tap an item to change its name, quantity, note or category.

Every trip

How do I uncheck everything and start again?

In Use mode, tap the round button at the bottom right (circular arrow), or open the … menu → Fresh Start. Once you confirm, everything is unchecked and the list opens in Adjust mode for a quick review. Tap Looks Good when it’s ready.

Add or remove an item for this trip only

Add just this once: when adding an item, turn on Just This Once. It’s labeled “Just once” and will be removed when you shelve the list.

Remove just this once: in Use mode, swipe the item to the left and tap Not This Time. It moves under Hidden This Time, where you can Restore it; otherwise it comes back on its own when the list is shelved.

What is a “shelved” list?

The home screen only shows the lists you’re using. When you’re back, shelve the list: … menu → Shelve List, or swipe its card to the left on the home screen. It isn’t deleted: it waits for your next trip.

To pick it up again, tap Start a List and choose it under Your Shelved Lists: it starts over unchecked.

To change a shelved list without starting it: Settings (gear on the home screen) → Edit My Shelved Lists.

Backups and moving to a new iPhone

How do I back up my lists?

Settings → Export My Lists creates a .listance file with all your lists (categories, quantities, notes, checked items, icons and colors). Save it to Files or send it with AirDrop. Items added “just this once” aren’t included.

Your lists are also part of your iPhone’s iCloud or computer backup, if it’s turned on.

How do I get my lists on a new iPhone?

If you restore your new iPhone from a backup of the old one, your lists come back with it. Otherwise:

  1. On the old iPhone, export your lists (see above).
  2. On the new one, open the .listance file (AirDrop, Mail, Files) or go to Settings → Import a Backup.
  3. Choose Merge with My Lists to also keep the lists already there, or Replace All My Lists to keep only the backup.
Can I send a list to someone?

Yes, as a copy: the list’s … menu → Export List. The other person opens the file on their iPhone with Listance and imports it. Each of you then keeps your own version: lists aren’t synced.

General questions

Are my lists synced with iCloud or an iPad?

No. Listance runs on iPhone, without an account or a server, and your lists stay on your device. To move them, use export and import.

How do I delete a list, a category or an item?
  • A list: the list’s … menu → Delete List. Deleting is permanent.
  • A category: in Adjust mode, the category’s … menu → Delete Category. You choose whether to keep its items (uncategorized) or delete them too.
  • An item: in Adjust mode, tap the red − to the left of the item.
Which languages does the app support?

English and French. Listance follows your iPhone’s language; to choose a different one for Listance only: Settings → Apps → Listance → Language (on iOS 17: Settings → Listance → Language).

What data does the app collect?

None. See the privacy policy.
